Neisseria Gonorrhea Bacterium - Morphology and Treatment of Neisseria Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by a bacterium called Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It can grow and multiply easily in the warm, moist areas of the reproductive tract, including the cervix, uterus, and fallopian tubes in women, and in the urethra in both women and men.

Neisseria Gonorrhea Symptoms in men

  • discharge from penis
  • burning feeling while urinating

Neisseria Gonorrhea symptoms in women

  • usually none
  • sometimes vaginal discharge
  • abdominal discomfort

Diagnosis of Neisseria Gonorrhea

  • culture of a suspected infection
  • examination of vaginal discharge by microscope

Treatment of Neisseria Gonorrhea

Antibiotics can be given. Untreated can lead to:

  • severe pelvic inflammation in women
  • infertility
  • arthritis
  • other problems
